Welcome to Messy Church! Messy Church is for children of all ages and their families and takes place on the first Tuesday of every month during term time from 3.30-5.30pm in the Church. Each session is based on a biblical theme, includes free refreshments, lots of crafts, a stories, songs, and games. Following the activities there is a free shared meal for the children. Messy Church is a buzzing and popular service and we look forward to welcoming you soon.
Every month, during school term time, we welcome children, parents, grandparents and carers, the young and young- at- heart. Together, we learn about God and his love for us through crafts, songs, stories, fellowship and food. Each session is planned around a theme which we explore through ten different craft activities, some messier than others!
Recent sessions have explored questions such as ‘Who is Jesus?’ and involve all sorts of fun, such as making delicious edible bird’s nests out of chocolate crispies and fondant icing; constructing boats out of junk and testing their sea-worthiness; making pop-up get well soon cards; painting pictures of Jesus after looking at images of him in art from around the world and making sheep out of playdough and cocktail sticks! In our celebration we explain how all these crafts tell the stories from the bible, of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection and how God sent his Son to mend broken hearts and lives.
We are then treated to a marvellous feast, provided by our catering team, which is enjoyed inside during the winter months or outside the church in the glorious sunshine in the Spring and Summer! In recent sessions, as numbers have increased, we have eaten our shared meal together in the church, beneath the carved angel choir and it has felt like a heavenly banquet!
The planning team have been very encouraged by the response to Messy Church over the last two years and how each month we welcome back old faces and new. We are grateful to our dedicated team of volunteers who: pray, cook, tidy, set up, welcome, sing, chat, play, operate the sound/pc, lead crafts, give the talk, put up signs, buy resources etc etc and make Messy Church happen each month. We are always keen to welcome anyone who would like to get involved or just to come along and see what Messy Church is all about.
Messy Church happens on the first Tuesday of the Month throughout the school term, straight after school, in St Andrew’s Church. A free meal for everyone happens at the end of each session.
