Youth and Children

During our 10.30am Sunday Services we have three groups for children aged 0-11 years:
(For children aged 11+ please see our ‘Youth Work’ section)
Each group seeks to help the children explore the Christian faith for themselves. We learn stories from the Bible, play games, make crafts and more, with an emphasis on fun.

bubblesBubbles is our group for children in Reception and Key Stage One (Ages 4-7). We currently meet alongside the Xstream group in the School.

On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month the children begin their groups in the School from 10.30am. The children are brought across to the Church to join their families in the service for Communion.

On 3rd and 5th Sundays the children start the service with the rest of the church family, when the leader indicates parents take the children to the School for their groups (parents return to church once the children are registered). The children are collected from the School by parents at the end of the church service.

xstreamXstream is our group for children in Key Stage Two (Ages 8-11). We currently meet alongside the Bubbles group in the School.

On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month the children begin their groups in the School from 10.30am. They are then brought across to the Church to join their families in the service for Communion.

On 3rd and 5th Sundays the children start the service with the rest of the church family, when the leader indicates parents take the children to the School for their groups (parents return to church once the children are registered). The children are collected from the School by parents at the end of the church service.

All our children’s leaders and helpers have current enhanced level DBS checks in place. Please see our ‘Safeguarding’ section for more information on our Safeguarding policies and personnel.

Summer 2017 – Welcome to the Summer Term!

New Term, new topic…
Last term we studied our Christian lifestyle. We had lots of great discussions with the children as we explored different issues. This term we are looking at the New Testament letters. We will be learning why the letters were written to the early Christian church, and how they speak to us today. As ever we will have lots of games, stories, and crafts.
You can see the topic for each session (and where the session begins) in the term timetable at the end of this section.

New Email
With the new website up and running, you can now send your queries to the team using the new email address: children@bucklandchurchdevon.co.uk

The Crèche
Our new crèche began in January. We are so grateful to our new crèche team for giving their time and we pray that it will continue to be a blessing to those with children aged 0-3 years. The audio link into the South Porch is still a work in progress, but it should be available soon. Do please pass on the news that this provision is once again running, and we hope to welcome new families to use it soon. There are so many with young children in our Parish and this is a vital ministry to offer to them each week.

Now that we have a crèche team, we also need a crèche team leader…
From September, we need someone who would be willing to be in charge of running the crèche team. This is a relatively light role, but a very important one. As crèche leader you would need to:
• Produce a crèche termly rota for the Sunday services (template provided).
• Make sure that the register is up to date for each term (template provided).
• Ensure that the toys/equipment are safe and clean for the children (ie. Cleaning playmats/wiping hard toys/playdoh mats etc.) on a regular basis. This could be you and/or if you can gather some volunteers to help.
• Prepare a few simple crafts for the toddlers to do during some of the sessions, or co-ordinate for others to do so. (Expenses for crafts can be claimed back if you hold on the receipts).
• Make sure that there is always paper/crayons for children.

Please consider taking on this role, and get in touch with Bryony, Hannah or Graham if you would like to know more as soon as possible.

Prayer
Do please remember to commit the children’s work to prayer. The Bible says that “children are a blessing from the Lord” (Psalm 127:3), we believe this and know that encouraging them to develop their own faith and friendship with God is so important. If you are unable to volunteer to run the activities, perhaps you can support us in this way? Thank you.

With very best wishes for the coming term,
The Sunday School Team (Bryony, Hannah, Hellen & Heather)

Mini Messy Church – This is a new initiative and will begin on an occasional basis. Our new Mini Messy Church service is especially designed for our youngest members from birth to pre-school ages and their parents/carers. Like our normal Messy church sessions, there will be refreshments, toys, crafts, singing, and stories in a relaxed atmosphere. The service will be shorter, take place on a weekday morning, and be a great place for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers to learn about God in a safe and fun way. More information on dates for this coming soon.
